Complete bus stand quickly: Director of Town Panchayats
CHENNAI: The Director of Town Panchayats K.Gopal called a meeting recently to expedite the ongoing development works of Mamallapuram town panchayat in Kancheepuram district.
Officials of various government agencies involved participated in the meeting, in which Mr.Gopal urged them to speed up the work on construction of a bus stand at a cost of Rs. 4.15 crore.
The bus stand is coming up on four acres of land and is being funded fully by the Department of Tourism.
According to sources, Mr. Gopal told the meeting that tenders for a Rs. 6.08 crore underground sewerage project of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board have been finalised.
Dwelling units
The officials visited the site where Mamallapuram town panchayat is planning to construct 320 dwelling units at a cost of Rs. 2.56 crore for those belonging to economically weak sections under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP).
Mr. Gopal called upon the officials to complete the project within five months.
Mr. Gopal also urged them to take measures to remove encroachments, which came up on the Highways Department and town panchayat roads and in other public places, with the coordination of revenue and police officials.
Instructions have been given to officials of town panchayat to coordinate with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to install a substation at Pooncheri.
