BANGALORE: Eminent personalities have taken objection to veteran politician Haranahalli Ramaswamy’s statement questioning a math for conferring the Basava award to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar in 2003. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, former judge Ko. Channabasappa, dismissed Mr. Ramaswamy’s statement that conferring of the award had prompted violence by naxalites. The veteran politician’s statement was unwarranted and had sullied the work of the revolutionary singer, who was not a votary of violence by naxalites, he said. Writer Marulasiddappa said Mr. Ramaswamy had questioned the decision of Chitradurga’s Murugarajendra Math, which was conferring the award to personalities who had worked for the development of society. “Questioning the award now only shows that he is against the organisations with progressive thoughts,” he said. Former Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council and MLA B.R. Patil expressed displeasure against some of religious heads who were threatening to launch an agitation if Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa was not made Chief Minister. The religious heads should not interfere in the process of transfer of power being worked out between two political parties. By insisting on Mr. Yediyurappa, the religious heads were sending wrong signals of making the coveted post representative of a particular religion, he said.
