Andhra Bank moves to woo children

K. Srimali

VIJAYAWADA:

At a time when the habit of saving is fast declining, especially among the younger lot, the Andhra Bank has recently found a way to make saving interesting and enjoyable for children.

The ‘Kiddy Bank’ scheme that caught the imagination of children in the 70s and led to a good number of children opting for it, was re-launched sometime back and it is now attracting many children, according to Andhra Bank Executive Director Kalyan Mukherjee.

Speaking to The Hindu during his three-day visit to the city on Wednesday, Mr. Mukherjee said that in tune with the current trend of technology driving the banking, children were being given at the time of opening an account with th e bank an attractive doll with a secret code, which would be known only to the account holder and the bank manager.

“This is a continuation of the same system that we had in the past, but the secret code is an added attraction to the tech-savvy younger generation,” Mr. Mukherjee pointed out.
