Under the scheme, Centre will meet 80 per cent cost Rs. 80,000 fixed as the cost for a dwelling unit
GULBARGA: The State Government has submitted proposals estimated at Rs. 1,000 crore for inclusion of many more districts in the ambitious scheme of the Union Government for Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme launched this year. Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation managing director Anjum Parvez told The Hindu here on Thursday that the Union Government had included some districts in the programme this year and had sanctioned housing projects and slum deve lopment programmes estimated at Rs. 160 crore. He said under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme, the Union Government provided 80 per cent of the assistance subsidy and the unit cost of per house had been fixed at Rs. 80,000. The contribution of the beneficiaries was only 8 per cent and the remaining 12 per cent of the cost would be shared by the State Government. This year, the programme was implemented in Ramanagaram, six slums in Bangalore, Mulbagal in Kolar, Hassan district, and a few other places. Various agencies, including the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation, has been implementing the project, which aims at constructing new layouts for the slum dwellers with all modern amenities. The Union Government provided separate funds for the creation of infrastructure, including roads, drinking water and drainage facilities in the newly created layouts. Under the “hut-free village” project launched by the Government in 10 select taluks and 1,200 villages covered under the Suvarna Gramodaya Programme, the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation would create separate townships on the outskirts of the existing villages with all basic amenities. The Government proposed to build over 3.5 lakh houses under the “hut-free” villages programme in the State this year.
