Five-day workshop on translation begins

KOLAR: Pradhan Gurudutt, chairman of Karnataka Translation Literature Academy, has emphasised that not only the matter but also “music” of a subject should be translated. That will bring the essence of any subject to the readers of translated language in its originality, he said.

He was presiding over the inaugural function of workshop on translation of Telugu folk songs into Kannada at Terahalli hills near here on Thursday. Adima, a cultural association, has organised the five-day workshop in association with the academy.

Mr. Gurudutt stressed on the importance of according priority and recognising common people with rich folk treasure. Shesha Shastri, Head, Department of Kannada, Dravidian University, Kuppam, inaugurated the workshop. Workshop director Kotiganahalli Ramiah delivered introductory remarks.

Critics Nangli Chandrashekhar, S. Raghunath and writer Shivaramiah were present.

Singers Rajappa and Muni Reddy rendered Kannada folk songs translated from Telugu.
