Government to launch cable TV service

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government on Thursday formally decided to launch its own cable T.V. operations through a public sector agency.
The issue was discussed in detail at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, an official release here said, adding that it was also decided to immediately apply for licence to be issued by the Central Government.
The issue could be pursued after having further discussions at the Cabinet meeting slated for August 11, the release said.
Among others, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy, Chief Secretary, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and Secretaries of Finance, Home, Energy and Information Technology departments participated in the meeting.
