BERHAMPUR: Schools should become hubs of consciousness building regarding Right to Information Act, advised experts at a workshop for school headmasters, which concluded in the city on Thursday. This four day workshop on RTI Act was being held at City High School. Forty seven headmasters from various schools in Berhampur district attended this workshop. The Circle Inspector of Schools, Balmiki Pradhan elucidated how students and parents could now inquire and investigate about the answer sheets of their wards after results were out. According to him it is a right move as it eradicates communication gap between parents and teachers regarding performance of a student. He advised the teachers to take care that parents who applied to see the answer sheets of their wards were provided a photocopy of the same within thirty days. Earlier general public had to run to the Circle Inspector’s office to get information regarding the management of a school or other information. Now, head master of the school concerned would act as information officer of Education department in their respective areas. Applicant would have the right to get information from the head masters with proper application and deposition of fees as per the RTI Act. It would be a great help in bringing in people of a locality closer to the schools of their area as local panchayat bodies were managing the schools in their area. Use of RTI Act at schools would also build up consciousness of people regarding this Act. The head masters were advised to provide all possible help to the persons who come to school for information under RTI Act.Education department has published a booklet regarding implementation of RTI Act.
