Committee to look into ‘fraudulent’ resale of plots

Staff Reporter

Survey of all plots allotted by DDA that are lying vacant to be ensured by the committee

Slum dwellers will now be given low-cost housing loans on easy instalments instead of plots

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority Board on Thursday decided to set up a three-member committee to enquire into alleged fraudulent resale of plots and recommend action against the officials found guilty.

Meeting

At a meeting of the Board chaired by Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna, it was decided that the committee would comprise the Chief Vigilance Officer of the DDA, the Additional Commissioner (Vigilance) of the Delhi Government, and a senior official from the Central Vigilance Commission. The committee would give its report within two months.

The committee would also ensure a survey of all the plots allotted by the DDA that are lying vacant and unutilised. The focus would be on establishing the genuineness of ownership and retention of plots by original allottees.

During the meeting, DDA member Mahabal Mishra raised the issue of plots allotted for rehabilitation, pointing out that they remain vacant and either get resold or are held by individuals for speculation.

To prevent such scams in future, it was also decided that the slum dwellers whose units are demolished would not be provided alternative plots for rehabilitation. Instead, they would be given low-cost housing loans on easy instalments with terms and conditions that would prevent resale of plots.

The DDA has also decided to take back possession of the plots that are lying vacant after due legal process.

Memorial

The DDA also decided to build a memorial for the 1857 martyrs. A presentation on the Management Information System was also made to the Authority. The system will have up-to-date land records.
