A 23-year-old woman was killed at Pallavaram and a 45-year-old man
at Tambaram
TAMBARAM: Speeding buses were responsible for the death of two people in road accidents on arterial Grand Southern Trunk Road in the past two days.
In the first accident that took place at Pallavaram, a 23-year-old woman was killed when the motorcycle which she was riding with a friend, was hit by a speeding bus transporting students of a private college.
S. Ramya (23) of New Colony, Chromepet, was working with a private airlines company at the Chennai airport. Around 5 p.m. on Monday, she was riding a Yamaha motorcycle with a colleague.
At Pallavaram, the speeding bus hit the motorcycle from behind, throwing her and the motorcycle rider on the road.
While the rider escaped with minor injuries, Ramya was rushed to a private hospital in Pallikaranai in a critical condition and she succumbed to injuries there, traffic police said.
On Thursday evening, an unidentified man, around 45 years old, was killed on the spot when the scooter he was riding was hit by a speeding government bus at Tambaram.
The victim was wearing a helmet, but it was damaged so much that it was broken into pieces when the victim came under the wheels of the bus.
The government bus was on its way to Koyambedu from Tiruvannamalai.
The accident took place around 4.30 p.m.
