MADURAI: Members of the Madurai Corporation General Workers’ Union took out a procession from Tamukkam to the Collectorate highlighting a charter of demands on Thursday.
Later, the State general secretary of Tamil Nadu Sanitary Workers’ Welfare Association, M. Amsaraj, and the union secretary, K. V. Pandiyaraj, submitted a memorandum to the Collector.
The memorandum wanted the authorities to generate a list of workers for welfare assistance. The Corporation should provide temporary dwelling places to all sanitary workers. The families of workers, who did not get residences at West Gate and Subramaniapuram, should be provided with alternative sites.
The selection of beneficiaries under the slum improvement programme should be unbiased, the union said.
