“Allow sand quarrying”

Staff Reporter

KARUR: Bullock cart sand traders here, represented by Karur MLA V. Senthil Balaji, submitted a petition to the District Collector T.N. Venkatesh demanding that they be allowed to quarry sand in River Amaravathy.

The Collector said the High Court had clamped a ban on quarrying sand on river bed. Butthey urged him to relax the norms to which Mr. Venkatesh cautioned them against attracting contempt of court provisions.

Sand traders and the MLA then requested the Collector to allow quarrying from places other than notified in the ban order. They also sought relaxation of quarrying timings.
