Reorganised constituencies to be announced shortly

Number of Lok Sabha, Assembly seats will remain same
VELLORE: The Constituency Delimitation Commission headed by Kuldip Singh will announce, within a day or two, the list of the newly reorganised Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, according to D. Chandrasekharan, State Election Commissioner (SEC) and member of the Commission.
Talking to newspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Chandrasekharan said the number of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu would remain the same at 39 and 234 even after the reorganisation.
During the public hearing, suggestions were made that the Tirupattur Lok Sabha constituency (comprising three Assembly constituencies each from Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts), the Natrampalli Assembly constituency in Vellore district, the Padmanabhapuram Assembly constituency in Kanyakumari district and Triplicane Assembly constituency in Chennai should be retained.
Mr. Chandrasekharan said the Delimitation Commission has examined all the suggestions.
The delimitation had been done as per the Constitutional provisions.
The delimitation had been done in such a way as to ensure that each Assembly constituency, on an average, had a total electorate of 2.66 lakh, he said.
EVMs for civic byelections
The State Election Commissioner said that for the first time, electronic voting machines were to be used inthe local body elections when by-elections are held soon for 384 local body posts, including 342 posts in village panchayats, 24 in town panchayats and 18 in municipalities.
