HYDERABAD: With two more victories in Thursday’s races, Rajesh Choudary of the Army Yachting Node is assured of title in the Standard category of the Laser sailing National championships at the Hussainsagar lake. In the Radial class, B.K. Raut is also in a similar position while in the 4.7 class Navin Shirodkar leads the points tally. According to the rules each sailor will be allowed to discard his two worst performances when the final points tally is being drawn up. Benign wind conditions made sailing a pleasure and the majority of the participants were able to finish the course. In the Standard category, Rajesh proved that he is a cut above the rest. In the seventh race, he started almost thirty seconds after the rest of the fleet had taken off. Rajesh felt that he had crossed the start line before the starting signal was given. He decided to play it safe so as not to be declared OCS (Over the Course at the Start) and disqualified. He went around the mark and began the race again. Initially, Sukhvir Singh was in the lead followed by Jasvir Singh. Johal was lying in third position with Rajesh way behind. But as the race progressed, Rajesh moved up and when the last leg began, Rajesh had a comfortable lead which he retained till the end. The results: Laser Standard: Seventh race: 1. Rajesh Choudary (AYN) 51: 32s, 2. N.S. Johal (AYN) 51: 54s, 3. Jasvir Singh (AYN) 51: 56s. Eighth race: 1. Rajesh 51: 29s, 2. Jasvir Singh 51: 42s, 3. Ram Kumar (AYN) 51: 45s. Laser Radial: Seventh race: 1. B.K. Raut (AYN) 48: 32s, 2. Dharmendra Singh (AYN) 49: 49s, 3. Rajesh Kumar (AYN) 49: 55s. Eighth race: 1. P. Madhu (AYN) 47: 41s, 2. B.K. Raut 47: 50s, 3. Parvinder Singh (AYN) 48: 50s . Laser 4.7 class: Seventh race: 1. N. Abhimanyu (TNSA) 43: 17s, 2. Navin Shirodkar (NDA) 43: 34s, 3. Alekhya Sudam (SSC) 44: 21s. Eighth race: 1. Navin Shirodkar 44: 38s, 2. N. Abhimanyu 45: 17s, 3. Mrinalini (TNSA) 45: 30s.
