CHENNAI: India lost to France 2-1 and went out of the race for a last-eight berth in the team event of the World junior women’s squash championship in Hong Kong. Surbhi Mishra’s grand fight against Coline Aumard in the second match after Dipika Pallikal went down in straight games to Camille Serme raised some hope for India. Surbhi grabbed the first game and then the fourth to queer the pitch, but the French girl had the last say in the 61-minute tie. That win gave France an unbeatable 2-0 lead, enough to ensure a passage into the next round. Anwesha Reddy still showed the inspiration to beat Faustine Gilles in the inconsequential third match in straight games. Later, India completed its engagements with a 3-0 win over Switzerland to finish third in Pool ‘C.’ New Zealand and France qualified from this pool as the top two teams. The results: France bt India 2-1 (Camille Serme bt Dipika Pallikal 9-2, 9-2, 9-7; Coline Aumard bt Surbhi Mishra 3-9, 9-2, 9-4, 4-9, 9-6; Faustine Gilles lost to Anwesha Reddy 8-10, 0-9, 0-9); India bt Switzerland 3-0 (Dipika Pallikal bt Jasmin Ballman 9-3, 9-4, 9-5; Surbhi Mishra bt Caroline Bachem 5-9, 9-1, 9-3, 9-3; Anwesha Reddy bt Agapi Kazamia 10-8, 9-6, 9-5).
