Headmasters’ association seeks Minister’s intervention

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: The Kancheepuram district unit of the Tamilnadu Higher Secondary School Headmasters’ Association has called upon the Minister for School Education to review the decisions taken by the Education Department with regard to two different incidents resulting in transfer of Headmasters of respective government schools.

Stating that such unilateral decision of putting entire blame on the head of the institutions — of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kancheepuram and Government Higher Secondary School, Maraimalai Nagar — would only demoralise other headmasters aspiring to improve the overall performance of government educational institutions.

It had also urged the Minister to ensure initiation of disciplinary action against three teachers who had assaulted the headmaster of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Achirapakkam recently.

Girl’s hair cut

The headmaster of Maraimalai Nagar government school was transferred to Ramanathapuram district following a complaint from a girl student that her hair was cut forcibly by the head of the institution using a blade. However, the girl’s parent who had lodged a complaint with local police decided to withdraw their petition after the police made it clear that it would not be possible to cut hair in a perfect manner with a shaving blade.

Similarly, at Kancheepuram, a girl’s father lodged a complaint with the District Collector stating that his daughter was asked to remove her uniform by the headmaster under the guise of “frisking.”

Inquiry ordered

Immediately, a departmental inquiry was ordered and transfer orders were issued to the headmaster and another teacher, who was found guilty of instigating the father of the said student to lodge a complaint against the head of the institution.
