Govt. to conduct livestock census

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department will conduct the 18th Livestock Census in the State from September 15 to October 15.

Animal Husbandry Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said on Friday that the census was being conducted as part of a national programme and in keeping with the guidelines of the Central Government.

The department had already started gearing up for it in a systematic manner, he said. The requisite schedule, instruction manual and other census material had already been printed and it would be made available to all the districts. The census would help the Government in formulating programmes and policies for promoting livestock production and further improve the already available high quality animal infrastructure in the State.

Mr. Chatha said the Central Government had entrusted the task to the department as it had successfully carried out the 17th census of livestock in 2003. — PTI
