Kozhikode: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the Indo-U.S. agreement on nuclear cooperation favoured India to surge ahead in developing its energy sector. The agreement had cleared the confusion regarding nuclear cooperation reached between the two nations for peaceful purposes, he said while inaugurating a history workshop organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) in connection with the 150th anniversary of the India’s first freedom struggle here on Friday. He said the agreement was needed for the country. There was no reason why the Left parties were vehemently opposing the agreement. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre would not take any decision detrimental to the interests of the country, Mr. Chennithala said. He said the signing of the agreement with the U.S. did not mean that India would support all its foreign policies. He accused the Communist parties of betraying the Quit India Movement. This betrayal was still set in them. They had no right to speak about fighting imperialism and teach the Congress on how to fight imperialism.
