Karunanidhi vows to take Tamil Nadu along path of progress

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday vowed to take the entire State along the path of progress, braving all impediments and obstacles created by detractors.

Shortly after laying the foundation stone for the Rs.100-crore Adyar eco park restoration project here, he said such schemes would provide the foundation for the development of the State.

At a time when prospects of restoring the trade and cultural glory had brightened, certain persons were bent upon stalling the growth, he said. Even if they could not contribute to the progress of the State, they could at least abandon their attempts to create stumbling blocks to ensure implementation of the projects expeditiously.

Tamil Nadu had overtaken other States in industrial development. Though many central schemes such as the Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project had come to the State, there was opposition to them too, he said. Steering clear of such obstacles with the help of the people, the schemes had to be executed, he added.

Minister for Public Works Durai Murugan, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin and Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathy highlighted the importance of such projects to promote awareness among the public of protecting the environment.
