No threat to habitats

Staff Reporter

KARUR: The Collector, T.N. Venkatesh, inspected the Kattalai Bed Regulator across the Cauvery at Mayanur and directed Public Works Department (River Conservation Division) and Revenue Department officials to take all efforts to strengthen the banks of the river and maintain round-the-clock vigil as a huge quantum of water was flowing down the river.

While a flood warning had been sounded already in the district, the Collector told the officials to be prepared for any eventuality.

Apart from the discharge from Mettur Dam, around 20,000 cusecs of water was being released from the Bhavanisagar dam in the Amaravathy that has its confluence in the Cauvery, which in total was carrying over one lakh cusecs of water.

Mr. Venkatesh said that there was no danger to the habitats along the Amaravathy river.
