Rajiv Swagruha to be launched on Aug. 24

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will launch the Rajiv Swagruha housing programme for the middle income group at Pocharam village of Ghatkesar mandal on August 24.

This was announced during a review of the progress of the programme and another housing scheme for poor under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM) at the Secretariat on Friday. Dr. Reddy, Housing Minister Botcha Satyanarayana and senior officials were present.

An official press release said Dr. Reddy asked officials to come up with a detailed project and an action plan for implementation of the housing programme under JNNURM in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam within a fortnight.

Foolproof

He wanted enumeration of beneficiaries in a foolproof manner in encroached areas, slums and other places where the urban poor lived in the three cities. The programme should make the three cities slum free. The beneficiaries should be evicted from their habitations only after construction of houses.

The JNNURM envisaged construction of 79,000 houses in the three cities with funds from Centre and banks. The Rajiv Swagruha programme is proposed to be implemented in 18 towns by a newly formed corporation for the purpose, the statement added.

The meeting was also attended by Advisor to Government K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration A. Raghotham Rao.
