PUDUKOTTAI: The joy of 40 students of Adi Dravidar Welfare Primary School at Gurukalayapatti in Annavasal block in the district knew no bounds when the Congress MLA and the Member of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Committee on Estimates, K. Hasan Ali, donated Rs.5,000 for supplying uniforms to them.
The MLA, who was moved by the shabby uniforms the children were wearing, instantly decided to donate the money. He also wished that the uniforms be supplied to the students on the Independence Day.
Amid cheers and minutes before leaving the school, the Chairman of the Committee, V. Mullaivendan, handed over Rs. 5,000 to Collector S. J. Chiru.
The Tirumayam MLA, R. M. Subburam, also took advantage of the Committee’s visit to his constituency. A member of the Committee, Mr. Subburam, played the role of a host when the Committee reached Tirumayam.
He distributed a book titled ‘Tirumeyamum Divya Prabandhamum’ on the history of the rock-cut temple to each member, and pleaded with the Chairman to take efforts to develop the historical fort, built in 1687 A.D., into a national tourism centre.
