MYSTERIOUS CASE: Police checking the trunk in which a body was found in Hyderabad on Friday.

HYDERABAD: A headless body of a man stuffed in a trunk was found in Dakshin Express at Nampally railway station early on Friday.

Minutes after passengers got down from the train, the railway staff started inspecting all the compartments. As they entered S5 coach, they noticed a grey iron box underneath a berth. On suspicion, they alerted station Deputy Superintendent K. P. Joseph who informed the police.

Box broken

The police rushed to the platform where the train halted and broke open the box only to find a beheaded body wrapped in a black polythene cover. “It’s a meticulously done murder. Assailants carefully chopped the victim’s head to conceal his identity,” Railway Superintendent of Police K. Venkateswara Rao told reporters.

Officials were baffled as to how the assailants managed to stuff the body of a man of 5.6 ft. by folding his hands and legs together in a 27X15 inch box.

The offenders also mopped the letters inscribed on the box to prevent the police from collecting clues from it. There were no blood stains on the box.

Identity

“We have sent the box to Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.

The victim’s fingerprints were collected to match them with criminals’ data available with us to know his identity in case if he is a known offender,” Railway Deputy Superintendent V. Pandarinath explained.

“Efforts are on to get details of police constables posted in the train and hawkers.

We are requesting officials of ticket reservation to furnish particulars of passengers from berth 54 to 63 to identify the man,” he said.
