‘Book attempt to murder case, against Owaisi’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya has demanded booking of a case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code against MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for his utterances against Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

At a press conference here on Friday, he demanded Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy to disqualify Mr.Owaisi’s membership of the Assembly.

‘Soft Attitude’

He charged the Government with adopting a “soft attitude” against MIM legislators, who had roughed up Ms. Nasreen at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday. Though Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had promised stern action the manner of arrests and cases booked against the attackers showed an attempt to “water down” the incident. Mr. Dattatreya said a meeting of the Party’s State office-bearers, district presidents and in-charges would be held here on August 14 to chalk out a detailed schedule for the week-long campaign ‘Palle Palleku Kadalandi’ to be launched shortly. BJP national president Rajnath Singh and other leaders will participate.

Land distribution

During the visit to villages, BJP leaders would collect applications from agricultural labour and submit representations to MROs and Collectors. Though land was available, the Government was not distributing it to the poor, he charged and declared that BJP would launch a struggle.
