NEW DELHI: The Left parties on Friday conveyed their disagreement with the proposed legislation for unorganised workers. They said the most exploited section of the working class would not get much relief as the Centre would have no role in providing social security. The four Left parties, which met here to finalise the strategy for the Monsoon session of Parliament, said the Government brought in the Bill without taking into consideration the recommendations of the Arjun Sengupta Commission and the trade unions were not even consulted. Briefing correspondents, CPI(M) Parliamentary Party leader Basudeb Acharia said the Left parties would also raise the issue of floods in various parts of the country and find out from the Government what steps it was taking to prevent its recurrence. A delegation of CPI MPs separately met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him to extend all possible help to Bihar. Dr. Singh told the delegation led by Gurudas Dasgupta that the Union Cabinet had decided to extend all possible assistance through the State Government. Mr. Dasgupta said that though Dr. Singh spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar the latter did not make any request for assistance. The Left parties would once again take up the issue of price rise and demand strengthening of the Public Distribution System. Mr. Acharia said that even the Farmers’ Commission suggested that the Government take steps to universalise the system for both the Above Poverty Line and BPL people.
