Ansari condemns attack

NEW DELHI: In his first public comments after being elected Vice-President, Hamid Ansari on Friday condemned the attack on Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin.

“Use of violence to protest a point of view is wrong,” Mr. Ansari said when asked to comment on the attack on Ms. Nasrin in Hyderabad.

“To agree to a point of view or to disagree is the right of a citizen but the use of violence as a form of protest is wrong.”

Asked to comment on the civil nuclear agreement with the U.S., Mr. Ansari, a former diplomat, observed that the deal has evolved through a process of negotiations. — PTI
