MIM vows to implement ‘fatwa’ against Taslima
HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI: After attacking Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin here on Thursday, the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) on Friday threatened today to implement a “fatwa” of death sentence against her even as Vice President-elect Hamid Ansari led Muslim intellectuals in flaying the assault on Nasreen.
“There is a fatwa against her and the fatwa is one and all for the entire Muslim world, whether it is Salman Rushdie or Taslima Nasrin,” MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said.
“If Taslima makes another visit to Hyderabad, yes we will try to implement the fatwa on her,” he said.
The “fatwa” had been issued way back in 1994 by a radical Islamic group in Bangladesh protesting her alleged blasphemy. — PTI
