The Blue Umbrella (Hindi) Director: Vishal Bharadwaj Cast: Pankaj Kapur, Shreya Sharma, Paramveer Singh All the colours of life come calling with a film too beautiful to be allowed to go unseen. Vishal Bharadwaj’s film has been released days after winning the National Award for the best children’s film. It is a film that can, and should be, watched by all. So delectable is the run of play in this film based on Ruskin Bond’s novella of the same name. Pankaj Kapur steals the show with a fetching portrait of Nandkishore, a balding man with the heart of a child. Shreya Sharma shows a lot of promise as Biniya, the girl whose umbrella sets the ball rolling. She has a blue umbrella, the kind of which nobody has seen . It is the cynosure of all eyes. More so for Nandkishore, who longs to possess the umbrella. The little exchange between the girl and the old man is lovely. However, the umbrella goes missing. And the needle of suspicion points to the old man, who has meanwhile, gotten himself a beautiful red umbrella from Delhi. One thing leads to another as the man yearns to prove his innocence. What is actually proved is that Kapur is among the most gifted actors of our generation. Here he leaves the cinemagoers indebted for a performance that is truly memorable. Take your kids. And pamper the child in you. Z.U.S.
