New Hepatitis A vaccine soon
HYDERABAD: Chiron Panacea Vaccines Private Limited on Friday announced that a new generation Hepatitis A vaccine, HAVpur, will be launched in the Indian market in a week. Switzerland-based Berna Biotech has partnered with the company for marketing the vaccine, which is based on virosome technology.
At a press conference here, Christian Herzog, director (medical services), Berna Biotech and M.Indra Shekhar Rao, professor & head, Department of Pediatrics, Niloufer Hospital, said the vaccine is fully bio-degradable and has the advantage of not having an adjuvant that causes pain.
Shafi Kolhapure, GM, said the vaccine would be priced around Rs.1,000 for each dose. Dr. Rao said the IAP had endorsed the vaccination for children to be given in two doses.
