PUDUCHERRY: Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy have congratulated Hamid Ansari on his election to the office of the Vice President of India. In his letter to Mr. Ansari, the Lt. Governor has said with “his erudition skills and vast experience in foreign affairs covering a wide spectrum, he would be a worthy occupant of the Office of Vice President and the seat of the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.” Mr. Rangasamy, who also greeted the new Vice President on behalf of the people of Puducherry, said his victory was a victory for secularism. Thanking All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leaders of the alliance parties for making possible the victory with a greater number of votes, he said he hoped Mr. Ansari would lead the country to greater heights. — Staff Reporter
