Surrendered naxals leading envious lives

TADVAI (WARANGAL DT): Former naxals are leading an envious life, if one goes case by case. The State Government has been giving the surrendered naxals lot of money by way of immediate relief, reward amount, bank loans and land worth lakh of rupees.

The 21-year-old Polepally Raju of Devannapet in Hasanparthy mandal worked in the Maoist party from 2001 to 2004. When he surrendered in 2004, he got Rs. 5,000 as immediate relief, besides Rs. 50,000 the reward he was carrying. As part of rehabilitation of surrendered cadre, the police department secured him a loan of Rs. 1.15 lakh to buy an auto-rickshaw which is presently sustaining him. In addition, he was also given 110 square foot of land near Hanamkonda town which costs over Rs. 2 lakh.

A top naxal, Durgam Ramanaiah says, “Leave about the reward money, I did not expect the police to behave so nicely.”Over 130 surrendered naxals have been waiting for rehabilitation since early 1990s. Superintendent of Police, Soumya Mishra, after taking the charge of Warangal district, focused mainly on the rehabilitation of surrendered cadre. During the past four months, the police officials cleared 75 files disbursing Rs, 5.25 crore in the district.
