Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The city police on Saturday night booked a case against MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi under Section 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of IPC for allegedly threatening writer Taslima Nasrin. The police filed a petition along with video footage in the Nampally court on Saturday morning seeking permission to book a case against the legislator. The court, later in the night, granted permission.

Earlier, Mr. Akbaruddin, in his complaint to police has alleged that Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin had made offensive remarks against Islam during a programme at the Press Club of Hyderabad and sought her prosecution.

Based on Mr. Owaisi’s complaint on Thursday, the Punjagutta police had registered a case under Section 153-A of the IPC against Ms. Nasrin. She was attacked by a mob led by three MIM legislators.
