News and current affairs is indeed up for some competitive times on Telugu television.

The stage is just getting set for another round-the-clock news channel to start beaming and offer more options to viewers. These days the floors at NTV studios are buzz with the D-day of the launch looming large.

Along with the news channel, NTV is getting ready to launch ‘Bhakti’, described South’s first devotional channel on August 30.

A fleet of eight DSNG vans, said to be the country’s first regional channel to have such a fleet, have been kept stationed for news gathering. The newsroom too has the best of automation systems in place.

Different look

“Everything is in place. We are ready to roll out both the channels on August 30,” affirms S. R. Ramanujan, Chief Executive Officer. He says the news channel will sport a look different from the existing ones and it will seek to appeal to the younger viewers in particular. “NTV does mean Next Generation TV,” he says.

The most modern look will include modern graphics, promos and presentation.

A team of 57 field reporters have been put together with as many as 23 reporters covering the city events alone. Necessary infrastructure has been put in place to cover all the districts with the emphasis on ‘live’ coverage.

“With the infrastructure we have, we have an edge over our competitors. In our programme ‘AP Online’, we will be going ‘live’ every day with stories from different parts,” he says. Nine newscasters have been taken in and trained by the channel.

Programmes lined up include a breakfast show ‘Morning Raga’, news-based show, a celebrity show ‘Dine with NTV’ apart from the regular bulletins, sport and entertainment capsules. “Our content and the way we treat it will be different,” promises NTV chief Narender Choudary.
