Workshop on living life meaningfully marks Youth Day
BANGALORE: Leaders work to develop themselves to the highest level of human perfection. Leadership is a journey and not an end in itself. Leaders dare to think and do not rest till the goal is achieved: these were some of the opinions expressed by participants at a workshop on “Living Purposefully and Developing Internal and External Leadership Qualities” organised by Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Bangalore, an associate NGO of United Nations. The workshop was held as part of the United Nations International Youth Day celebrations here on Sunday. Over 90 participants, in the age group of 18 to 35 from various backgrounds, ranging from academia to corporates, were divided into nine groups. They deliberated on topics such as the need for a role model, the key traits of a leader and the need to develop internal and external leadership qualities. The participants felt that leadership was a self-less journey involving integrity, discipline, courage and passion. Every individual has leadership qualities inside him and it is the situation that exposes these traits. Leaders were also considered to be excellent followers themselves. It was said that good orators do not always make good leaders. The second half of the workshop led the participants through a personal journey of self-discovery, i.e., defining the purpose of life. This process began by a silent introspection on the above subjects, after which the groups deliberated on topics such as understanding the individual’s quest, achieving fulfilment in life, and the need for a balanced existence to realise the goal.
