With pride: A rally organised by Dinamalar, a Tamil daily, in Tirupur on Sunday. –
TIRUPUR: Thousands from different walks of life attended a rally organised here on Sunday by the Tamil daily Dinamalar as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Independence.
K. Rajendran, Inspector General of Police, West Zone, flagged off the rally from Ramasamy Muthammal Marriage Hall on Palladam Road. It concluded on Nanjappa School grounds.
A number of export houses, service organisations, merchants, embroidery and knitting units, schools, colleges, hospitals and unions took part in the rally.
School children dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bharathiar and Abdul Kalam drew the attention of onlookers.
B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, president of Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan, Coimbatore, and Mohan P. Kandasamy, president of South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association let doves off the air.
Mr. Vanavarayar called upon the youth to make sacrifices to make the country a super power.
The vast number of youth population is the strength of the country that has a rich history and cultural values.
Mr. Vanavarayar asked the youth to work towards the uplift of the disadvantaged.
There should be a mass movement to eradicate poverty and illiteracy.
