Ananth Kumar says Yediyurappa will be next Chief Minister
BIJAPUR: General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party H.N. Ananth Kumar has said that Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will become Chief Minister when party’s term comes in October. Addressing party workers at an organisational training programme held at Koodalasangama in Bagalkot district on Saturday, Mr. Kumar said there was no confusion in the party about the party’s candidate for the coveted post. The national leadership of the party as well as the State unit had already clarified that Mr. Yediyurappa would head the Government. However, some vested interests were trying to give an impression that there was no consensus in the BJP about the leadership. It was a ploy by political opponents and party members should not be carried away by such propaganda, he said. Referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent visit to the State and his call to Congress workers to be ready for new political situation, Mr. Kumar said it was a clear sign that the Congress was indulging in destabilising the Government. He said that the transfer of power to the BJP would be smooth affair. Praising Mr. Yediyurappa for presenting an “outstanding” budget, Mr. Kumar called upon the party workers to highlight it at the grass-root level. He accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre of sacrificing the State’s interest with regard to Cauvery and Mahadayi disputes in an effort to further its political interest. The Centre had also adopted “step-motherly attitude’ with regard to developmental works in Karnataka and providing central assistance in various heads, he said. Dharwad North MP Pralhad Joshi called upon party workers to maintain their distant identity in carrying out political and social work. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Govind Karjol, who inaugurated the programme, said the BJP had expanded its social base that had to be consolidated by the cadre. Bagalkot MP P.C. Gaddigoudar; district unit head and MLA Siddu Savadi; legislators Veeranna Charanthimath, Doddanagouda Patil, M.K. Pattanashetti and Murgesh Nirani, and district organising secretary Chandrashekar Kavatagi participated in the programme.
