New Delhi: Vice-President Mohammed Hameed Ansari found himself homeless after being sworn-in and was taken to the Haryana Bhavan, which will serve as a makeshift residence for him. Officials in the Estate Department were seen running from pillar to post when they realised that the designated house for the Vice- President had not been vacated by the previous incumbent, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. New house for Shekhawat
After reviewing several premises, the Haryana Bhavan was selected by officials for Mr. Ansari even as efforts were doubled to ready a new residence for Mr. Shekhawat, who is likely to shift there on Monday, official sources said. The department informed the Union Home Ministry minutes before Mr. Ansari’s swearing-in ceremony that accommodation had been arranged for him at the Haryana Bhavan so that the ministry could provide the necessary security cover for him there. Calls on Pratibha
Mr. Ansari called on President Pratibha Patil. The meeting lasted for nearly 30 minutes, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman S.M. Khan said here. He termed the meeting a “courtesy call.” Mr. Ansari was sworn in on Saturday. — PTI
