TIRUPATI: TTD Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy inaugurated a housing colony at Seshachalam Nagar in Mangalam on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
The 185 houses, built under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY), are to be allotted to the erstwhile residents of Tirumala, evicted three years back as part of a special drive.
Situated against the backdrop of the picturesque and verdant hills, each house has a hall-cum-bed room, kitchen, verandah, a toilet, all in a plinth area of 396 sq. ft.
The entire colony has cement concrete internal roads, with proper internal electrification in place.
The total project cost is Rs. 3.26 crore, while the cost of each house has been arrived at Rs.1.60 lakh.
Mr. Reddy also declared open additional hostel blocks and a dining hall at the TTD’s Sri Venkateswara Arts College, constructed at a cost of Rs.2 crore.
Of the 97 rooms in the hostel block, 12 rooms have been earmarked exclusively for the visually and physically-challenged students.
