dated August 13, 1957: Directive to Govt. staff

The Madras Government have decided that it is inappropriate, under the present conditions, for Government servants to associate themselves prominently with, or spend their time on, purely ceremonial functions sponsored by non-officials (individuals, associations or local bodies) such as laying of foundation-stones and inaugural functions. In giving the direction that Government servants shall not associate themselves prominently with such functions by way of presiding over them or otherwise, the directive says that the ban will apply to wives of Government servants also.
