BANGALORE: With a view to addressing the dearth of emergency care providers in the country, the Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), Hyderabad, has tied up with the Stanford School of Medicine, U.S., to offer a two-year full-time residential postgraduate programme in emergency care. Venkat Chengavalli, Chief Operating Officer of the institute, told presspersons here on Saturday that 66 students were undergoing training and the course for the second batch would commence on September 18. The Postgraduate Programme in Emergency Care (PGPEC) is a two-year fulltime residential one designed to build competencies in emergency care. Emergency care is the pre-hospital emergency care given to an individual to prevent death of serious impairment to health. “The programme aims at developing leadership skills, soft and language skills and providing options and alternatives for the care of patient in an emergency. We are training them to be paramedical staff who can handle any medical emergency with competence. Science graduates or those with a nursing background are eligible to take the course,” Mr. Chengavalli said. For more details, students may log on to www.emri.in/edu.
