NSS volunteers entertain inmates of orphanage

Puducherry:

•As many as 51 NSS volunteers of St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School visited Sisu Bhavan, an orphanage run by the Missionaries of Charity on St. Therese Street. The volunteers offered bread, cakes, biscuits and used clothes to the inmates, and also presented a cultural show. S. Ilavazhagan, lecturer, Tamil Department, took charge as NSS programme officer of the school from August 1. The installation function was held on the school premises where Selvam Emile, former NSS programme officer, was felicitated for his outstanding performance during the last six years.

The 17th Sports Day prize distribution function was held at the school on August 4. V. Balasubramanian, principal, Tagore Arts College, was the chief guest. Chevalier V. Nallam presided over the function and distributed the prizes. Competitions were conducted for parents of the students. School correspondent S. Regis, principal R. Fredrick and director Lily Regis were present on the occasion.

•A special workshop on the elimination of corruption was organised at Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School recently for higher secondary students. A group of volunteers headed by Vijai Anand of 5th Pillar, India, conducted the workshop. Participants were briefed on the method of using the Right To Information (RTI) Act – 2005. Father M.S. John Bosco, principal, led the students in taking an oath “neither to give nor receive bribe in any form.”
