BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will announce a special package for farmers on the occasion of Independence Day on Wednesday. The package aimed at extending various support to the farmers was finalised at a high level meeting held at the State Secretariat here on Monday evening. The authorities, however, did not the reveal details of the package to the media saying that the Chief Minister would formally make the same public during his Independence Day speech. Among others who attended the meeting include Agriculture Minister Surendranath Nayak, Cooperation Minister Surama Padhi, Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy and Agriculture Production Commissioner Satya Prakash Nanda. So far, Mr. Patnaik was primarily focusing on the State’s industrial growth. But the government seems to be trying to give emphasis to agriculture as none of the big industrial projects had been implemented so far due to various reasons. The industrial projects are facing delay in the implementation mainly due to opposition to land acquisition. The opposition seems to be stronger where agricultural land was coming under the area earmarked for different industries.
