BHUBANESWAR: A marathon dharna of 231 days launched here by activists of Ekta Parishad was withdrawn on the 159th day following the Government’s assurance to take concrete steps on their demands. The activists sought distribution of waste and surplus land among tribals and landless population. Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy on Monday came to the place at Rastrabhasha Prachar Samiti and offered water to all those who had been continuing dharna since March 8 last. He said the Government convened a meeting on August 20 when a decision would be taken in this regard. Revenue minister Manmohan Samal said the landless people would be provided with homestead land in forest and wasteland by December 2008. Steel and Mines Minister Padmanabh Behera also promised all help.
