Security tightened in districts for I-Day fete

Krishnagiri: Security has been beefed up in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, in view of the 60th Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday. To prevent any untoward incident, the district police and Special Task Force (STF) personnel are on patrol and vigil has been stepped up in all sensitive areas.

A senior police official pointed out that all security arrangements had been made and additional police pickets strengthened.

Extremists

Police personnel armed with automatic weapons have been deployed in Thoppur and Karimangalam check-posts to prevent intrusion of extremists and smuggling of lethal weapons and explosives.

In addition, check-posts have also been set up at Mahendiramangalam, Nayakankottai and Samiapuram in Harur taluk.

Vehicles that pass through the check-posts were subjected to intense checking and mobile patrolling has also been activated on the highway and arterial roads in the district.

Security has been tightened at all vital installations including bus stand, railway station, Collectorate, unmanned railway gates, bridges and other government buildings.

Patrolling

The railway police have also stepped up vigil and open line patrolling on the seven pairs of trains touching Dharmapuri.

The entrance and exit of the station, platforms, overbridges and unmanned railway gates in the district have also been brought under tight surveillance.
