The scheme will be implemented from September 1 Rs. 4.8 crore released to the zilla panchayat
Chitradurga: The State Government’s Suvarna Grama Yojane, which is aimed at developing villages, will be implemented in 32 villages of the district from September 1. The Government has sanctioned Rs. 35.90 crore for the purpose. It has released Rs. 4.8 crore to the zilla panchayat to implement the scheme. The coalition Government had launched the project to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the unification of Karnataka. The Government has decided to adopt 1,000 villages in the State every year and release Rs. 1 crore for each village for its development. Schools, health centres, roads and other amenities would be provided, jobs for the youth would be given and women’s self-help groups would be formed under the scheme. The zilla panchayat has prepared a project report based on the population of each village. Of the 32 villages, 25 would be developed by the zilla panchayat and the rest by the Karnataka Land Army Corporation. “We have prepared a project report for which technical and administration approval has been obtained. The tender process is nearing completion. The civil work would commence soon,” said an official of the zilla panchayat. He said of the Rs. 4.8-crore released to the zilla panchayat, Rs. 15 lakh would be given to each gram panchayat in the initial stage. After obtaining utilisation certificates from the implementing agencies, the Government would release more funds in a phased manner. An official of the zilla panchayat’s engineering department, which finalises technical aspects and the tender process, said that the department had adopted e-tender process where the implementing agencies had to submit tenders through the internet. This system had been adopted to ensure transparency, he added. The tender process would be completed by the month end, he said.
