Loss due to floods in State highest in Honnavar 161 ‘ganji kendras’ set up in flood-hit areas in State

GADAG: Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the preliminary survey of flood-affected areas in the State have put the loss at Rs. 5,000 crore. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Shettar said that till the end of July, the loss due to rain-related damage had been put at Rs. 406 crore for which a proposal for assistance had been sent to the Union Government. Taking that into account, the total loss would Rs. 5,406 crore, he added. The highest loss in the State due to floods had been reported from Honnavar taluk in Uttara Kannada district where 54 “ganji kendras” had been set up. Food, accommodation and medical services were being provided to nearly 10,000 people, he said. The Government had taken steps to set up 161 “ganji kendras” in the flood-affected places across the State. A decision on leading a delegation to the Union Government for seeking additional funds to take up flood relief measures would be taken soon, he said. Later, the Minister visited various flood-affected places in Mundaragi taluk and reviewed the relief measures taken by the officials. Speaking to presspersons at Mundaragi, he said steps would be taken to shift the Hale Singatalur village. During his interaction with the displaced people, many had appealed to him to be provided houses in the new location. “I will be taking up the issue with the Chief Minister during a State-level meeting that will be held shortly”, he said. Mr. Shettar also visited the low-lying areas of Shibaragatti at Koralahalli village, flood-affected villages of Seeranahalli, Gangapur, Hesaruru, Bidaralli and inspected the relief measures taken up there. Mundaragi MLA S.S. Patil and Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Mohsin accompanied the Minister during his visits.
