Compensation for six passengers ordered

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The District Consumer Redressal Forum has asked the Transport Department to pay a compensation of Rs.1,000 each for six passengers who travelled in a Government bus to Bangalore for causing inordinate delay in the journey.

The forum also asked the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) to pay Rs.2,000 as a cost of proceedings. The incident happened two years ago. The bus was scheduled to start by 11 p.m. The passengers arrived at the bus stand half-an-hour ahead of the departure.

However, they had to wait for about two and-a-half hours before the bus started. The passengers complained to the forum that they were neither given proper reason for the delay. They also complained that the depot workers abused them. During the hearing, the department authorities informed the forum that the delay was due to a mechanical breakdown.
