WARANGAL: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy said over 7,000 students belonging to the minority community got benefited by the four per cent reservation provided for them in education sector by the State Government. Laying foundation for a minority residential school here on Monday, the Chief Minister said over 7,000 students secured seats in engineering and medical colleges this year following the quota provided by the Government. Similarly, the Government allocated Rs. 90 crore towards scholarships to minority students and the provision for fee re-imbursement will benefit 80,000 students to the tune of Rs. 37 crore, he said. The State Government is contemplating to set up 12 English medium residential schools for minorities at an estimated cost of Rs 3.37 crore, he said. Several initiatives are underway to empower women belonging to the minority community, economically and socially, Dr. Reddy said. The Chief Minister, who stayed overnight, had a busy schedule in the morning. He inaugurated the new building at Government Maternity Hospital and then inaugurated new hostels at Kakatiya Medical College and laid foundation stones for new facilities on the medical college campus. Panduranga Rao and Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that restoration of the temple is pending owing to official delay. Since the Navayuga Engineering Company has agreed to give guarantee of the structure, the Chief Minister wanted the ASI to entrust the work to the company. The company also agreed to execute the works worth Rs. 1 crore, free of cost, as part of its community services. Ministers J. Ratnakara Rao, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, D.S. Redya Naik and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MLAs and MLCs and officials were present.
