KOLAR: A bandh call given by several political parties and organisations on Monday evoked mixed response in Kolar Gold Fields, Bangarpet, Betamangala and Kamasamudram in the district. The bandh was by and large peaceful. The call was given in protest against the alleged abrupt transfer of Kolar Gold Fields Superintendent of Police K.V. Sridhar. Shops and business establishments in these places remained closed. Most of the schools and colleges announced a holiday. While some government offices remained closed, others worked. Work at Bharat Earth Movers Limited was not affected. There were no untoward incidents in the district during bandh. However, there was tension in Kolar Gold Fields on Sunday when rival groups favouring and opposing the bandh clashed.
