Corporal punishment

This refers to the cartoon (Aug. 13) on corporal punishment in schools. Corporal punishment is inhuman. Teachers should understand that the noblest way to punish a person is to forgive. Children by nature are mischievous. Those who refuse to be disciplined should be warned. If they continue to be contumacious and disrespectful, they can be expelled from schools. But the endeavour of schools should be to treat children with love and compassion.

In an attempt to highlight the increasing violence against children by a few teachers, the cartoon has, in one stroke, condemned the entire teaching fraternity.
