State cultural fest for students

BANGALORE: The Mysore-based Vishwamanava Vidyarthi Yuva Vedike will conduct State-level cultural competitions on August 29 and 30 at Kalamandira in Mysore.

Vedike President M.J. Suresh Gowda told presspersons here on Monday that more than 10,000 students from 1,000-odd educational institutions will take part in 18 competitions.

On the first day, the students will vie for honours in light classical music, folk music, fancy dress, rangoli, dance dramas based on Kuvempu’s poems, group folk dance, solo classical dance, group songs on Kannada and its culture and short plays.

The next day, they will compete for the prizes in Kannada film songs, mono acting, group dance (classical), Kannada anthakshari, Hindi anthakshari, solo dance (western), group dance (western), fabric designing and a beauty contest. The winners would get an opportunity to participate in Dasara festival, Mr. Gowda said.
